CD, DVD data recovery

Data on CD and DVD discs may need recovery due to two physical causes: disc surface is mechanically damaged and data cannot be read from the disk due to ageing.

We treat incorrect recording as a logical error.

At present, we do not know how to recover discs that become unreadable due to ageing. Only partial data recovery is possible. We still do not know how to read bad sectors on such discs. We are carrying some research work on this problem. If you have a disc that cannot be read due to its ageing and does not contain any valuable information, we will thankfully take such disc for the research (and possibly recover information from it for free). Indication of such fault: the disc previously could be read, no additional writing on it has been made, and now the disc has become unreadable (completely or partially).

Do not store important data on CD-R. As time goes by, such disc may become unreadable. Use DVD (they are much better than CD), or another hard drive. We recommend you to have several copies on different media.

We remove mechanical damages mechanically, too, using our own technique. That is polishing with special equipment, tools, and spare supplies. Skill is the most important in that procedure. Everyone can try, but will the disc be readable after such treatment? We recommend you to try that on any spare disc (or you may make a special one for the test). Record any data on a CD-R, check that the disk is readable, make some scratches (those that are linear along tracks are most dangerous), and try to recover the disc. If you feel too lazy for such work, bring the disc to us.

Logical errors: specially altered CD-drives are the best to use for data recovery from re-written or incorrectly written CD-R/RW discs. Such altered drives can read things that standard drives cannot. The difference is in drive firmware. Special software is also necessary.

CD, DVD data recovery prices
